DRM/IP News Rundown

Techdirt slams on the latest argument that fair use stifles innovation. I guess that’s so if you think that “innovation” is a word meaning “profiting from the same old technology and business models.”

Thankfully, the single-use DVD is a hoax. Or that’s what I’m hearing.

Now there’s a report that Vista will make you replace your monitor so that it can refuse to play your DVDs. I’m hoping that this is another hoax. It’s far wrongheaded to be true. Although stupid things still happen.

Must be the time of year when the RIAA sues children. You’d think that they’d quit that by now, but they’re actually going after the same households all over again. Yeah, that really makes me want to spend my money with them. Not. I think I’ll keep buying only second-hand albums when I have the chance, and maybe more indie music stores. There is good content that doesn’t support oppressive regimes. OTOH: I don’t know how I can get Larry Carlton’s new album without supporting them a little. >:-(
