World’s first completely transparent IC
Wow. They’ve built the world’s first completely transparent IC. Admittedly, it’s not doing a lot of work yet, but what a neat thing. I’d read about transparent transistors a while back and what that could mean to projectors and LCD screens. Now here we have something even more weird. Pretty soon your modded, watercooled case could be see-through.
I can’t wait until we see stuff appearing in windows, glasses, etc. Even novelty drinking glass tricks. I wonder what smart windows and doors will be like.
Neat stuff on slashdot.

They already have LCD windows. They essentially provide window blinds without the blinds. You switch off the window and it goes translucent, switch it on and it goes clear. Really cool stuff! Transparent ICs could help make the ugly complex (to some) world of electronics become even more inconspicuous though to those that would like that. Just wait until Apple comes out with the iClear Mac case, keyboard, monitor etc.

Heh. The apple folks will use it to make electronics MORE conspicuous. I can imagine these things all embedded with leds (blue, green, red, amber) and looking like a 70s disco floor. They’ll have light-up video boards hooked to light-up fans in light-up cases.
It will be wonderful.

Cause as you know Tim, the 70s disco floor will make a comeback just like everything else.
