Agile PS-100 Vintage Cherry with P90s

I was looking around at Rondo Music recently, and found this lovely P90-equipped guitar.

Agile PS-100 P90 cherry guitar

Generally, I like a little more contour on my guitars, but I like this one even though it’s not beveled or arched at all. That’s very unusual for me. I think that a little shape work would make it look like a much more expensive guitar. I think the features that catch my eye are:

  • Transparent red (vintage cherry) finish
  • P90s.
  • Grover tuners
  • Chrome hardware all around.
  • Black covers on P90s instead of white or cream
  • 24 frets (jumbo)
  • Set neck
  • No pick guard shows off wood better
  • Another angled neck. Why do I like that?
  • It matches my wife’s electric bass guitar. It’s cute when couples match.
  • The Price.

Downside

  • Not much in the way of contour other than the neat scoop on the back.
  • I would rather have separate volume for neck and bridge pickups. And separate tone controls.

Maybe when I’m in the market for my P90 I’ll pick one up. No time soon, with my collection and situation being what it is. I have plenty of good music equipment. I’m in no hurry. But it sure is cute.

  1. Hey, I found this same guitar the same day of this blog. I put its name in google to find any random information on it (As I tend to do with most things that catch my interest) and found this. I’m in the market for a guitar and I love how simple that thing is, its so plain. I hate how plain it is, but love how simple it is, but half-hating it won’t sway my decision to buy it. I thought it was cool to find somebody else making the same discovery I did, I had to comment. Tootles!

  2. Wow, what a coincidence!!! I know what you mean about plain v. simple. I also kinda want one.

  3. I also found another interesting Rondo p90 guitar. Again, they’re kinda planks (not a lot of contour other than the edges) but something is cool about both of them.

  4. Just ordered one. SX/Agile are great guitars. I’m looking for a junior setup, but the whole package caught my eye. The reason I didn’t get the Agile lp jr copy was due to the binding on the neck. I hate binding. I’ll check in when it comes in to let you know how it sounds. I’m putting in a nos capacitor, and I’ll be adding an extra volume pot.

  5. Okay. I worked a night shift to come home and find it on my doorstep this morning, quick shipped. Flawless cherry-red finish, impeccable. I’ve done setups for major names, majorly toured, recorded, etc. and am not bragging when I say I understand guitars. This guitar is as good as an American Hamer I set up with a P90 neck pickup and used for recording-among the smoothest and sweetest I’ve ever played, but it can growl as well. I replaced the bridge with a great P90 out of an old Epiphone ‘cause the original was not gutsy enough, maybe due to the beeswax. The neck pickup is dead on and is waxed. I un-reversed the neck pickup wiring to get rid of the thin humbucking middle position. I honestly don’t think I’m going to tweak the setup, it’s honestly that good. I’ll add a Vitamin Q cap, and I think I’ll throw in a dual volume pot and a radial switch to make the switch look like another pot, but that’s fluff. This guitar matches any P90 setup I’ve ever played except, perhaps, the ‘56 Gold Top that came through the store. The neck radius is flatter, but this is a lead or rhythm/lead axe anyway. Neck and both p/ups great as is, back down the tone for the bridge. Great for blues, country blues, growling rock, sonic leads. If you don’t have a tube amp, this wonderful guitar will make you go buy one. BTW, I checked the Rondo site. I must’ve got the last one ‘cause they plumb run out! I own several SX’s and love them to death after some tweaking, but this Agile takes the cake. God bless, brother pluckers!
