Seeking Better Windows Experience

Please visit my other blog if you are a pretty contented windows user. I am famously not, but I would like to know how you do it. I have to work in windows by day, and I would like to be happier in those 8+ hours. All comments that are remotely encouraging or useful are accepted. I will only delete “because you suck” comments, and only if they’re not also funny.

  1. I center most of my navigation around the DOS command line, but have a path to cygwinbin to get use of grep, tail, etc.

Best advice: Check your bias and improve your attitude. If you want to have a bad experience, you will have a bad experience. Right now my main annoyance with windows is all of the times it tells me it’s going to reboot in the next 4 minutes, but you can turn that off. (If you do so, create a calendar reminder to go after updates every other week or so.) I hibernate and reboot on average once a week, but I could make that every other week by scheduling the updates. (Ubuntu, BTW, really started annoying me with its constant pestering about new updates, too.)

I’ve run this laptop for two years now and haven’t felt compelled to reload; this is a windows first for me.

  2. I’m so trying, but it keeps failing and slowing.
